Boo!
When the night is dark and scary,
and the moon is full and creatures are a flying and the wind goes Whoooooooooo,
you better mind your parents and your teachers fond and dear,
and cherish them that loves ya, and dry the orphans tears
and help the poor and needy ones that cluster all about,
or the goblins will get ya if ya don't watch out!!!
--- From The Little Orphan Annie by James Whitcomb Riley
Fear is good. We couldn't survive without it, and there are times when we need to be reminded how good it is to be really scared. It keeps us on our toes.
Nowadays, Halloween never ends. Reality is bent before out eyes. Outlandish costumes of righteousness are worn by those whose actions are sinister and divisive.
The powerful are stealing our treats and giving them to tricksters.
We cry out with questions, but we are mocked. We lead everyday lives, yet we are demonized. We try to mind our own business, but federal zombies lurk behind every dark door, ready to leap out and drag us to Regulatory Hell.
We work, we pay our bills, we try to invest for the future, but we watch as our dollars are destroyed in a witch's brew of toxic recipes. We gape at wild-eyed politicians reveling in drunken orgies of permissiveness, throwing dollars willy-nilly at their friends and dancing on the grave of responsibility. We listen as they spout mysterious magic double talk that distorts the moral laws of money.
Debt is now a trendy drug, forced on the powerless by political Polanskis.
From our childhood, we remember the lessons of Halloween: Behavior has consequences. What we reap, we sow. We get what we deserve, not necessarily what we want..... We know that the Founders were right. They set up a system of laws that allowed us "the pursuit of happiness." They knew that happiness flows from following these natural laws. But now our scary masters think they can overturn these laws and make a new world in the image of their utopian vision. It's all been tried before. Mao, Stalin, Hitler--they all imposed their spooky schemes. The hundreds of millions of skeletons scattered about the earth offer a ghoulish testimony to the sufferings and sorrows these utopians brought upon the world.
We doubt it will come to that in America. Our version may only be a descent into a debtor's prison, chained to our dwindling entitlements and allowed some modest comforts. But for those accustomed to the full blessings of freedom, it will seem like the Night of the Living Dead.
When Halloween never ends, we have good reason to be truly frightened.
So if you have a God, pray for strength and wisdom. If you have a moral code, live it. If you have some excess dollars, trade them for something of value. And if you can find a candidate to support, do it. We are not dead yet.
And the goblins will get ya if ya don't watch out. Woooooooooooo.
