Susan B. Anthony gave over 100 speeches a year for more than 45 years in the cause of expanding opportunities for women, but we have to wonder: Could she ever have imagined a time when a slight, five-foot, two inch mother would be called on to engage in a gun battle to help end a massacre of unarmed soldiers?

No doubt Anthony wound have been proud of Sgt. Kimberly Munley, we certainly are. How fitting that this was a woman, courageous and clear-thinking, who rushed to confront this maniacal follower of a religious sect that restricts women's freedoms. Sgt. Munley knew her place all right, and it was running towards the sounds of gunfire.

Sometimes it takes a tragic affair to bring things into sharp relief. Do those liberals who seek to explain this terrorist's behavior as a sort of mental disease, instead of just pure, creepy evil, realize that in the fevered dreams of these religious nuts they are the first to be enslaved?

And what does Bill Clinton think? In 1993, not having the power to outlaw guns throughout the country, as liberals dream, he banned them in one of the few places under his federal control-- military bases. Is there blood on his hands? We guess it depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

Hard to imagine disarmed soldiers on a military base, but that's what we have come to.

We have been putting off buying another shotgun, but no longer. Who knows what the future holds. Gun and ammo prices have been steadily climbing, and in many ways guns are one of the best investments. They offer protection, the chance for food for the table, and a ready market when time to sell.

Some shotguns are lovely examples of the gunsmith's craft, satisfying to hold and operate, and lasting for generations. A nice one can be bought for about the price of an ounce of gold. Sounds like a deal to me.
